Resale value, 36 months: 68 percent 60 months: 55 percent

The 2012 vehicle with the highest overall resale value is the Jeep Wrangler. It is up 9.8 percentage points over last year, which is surprising because the Wrangler wasn't redesigned this year. Ibara cites several reasons for the strong value: the new 3.6-liter V6 engine, a solid performance during the year at auction, low production numbers that keep demand up, and the fact that this old-school off-roader has no direct competition. The Wrangler beat two rivals with resale values that placed in this year's top 10, the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V.

Our take: Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised by the Wrangler's strong showing. After all, few vehicles, if any, have as rabid an enthusiast base. Driving a Wrangler is a unique, visceral experience. It's a convertible when you want it, a trusted foul-weather friend and a ready-made hobbyist vehicle for off-roading.

Edmunds.com recently reported on the growing use of four-cylinder engines, thanks to consumer concerns about fuel prices and manufacturers working to meet government fuel economy standards. In January 2007, 32% of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. had a four-cylinder engine. By April 2008, that figure had risen to 40%, and it has never dipped below that mark since early 2009. This year, it has been 45% or higher. As you'd expect, fuel economy has also improved over the same period, by 15%.

The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country ranked highest in the mini van segment in the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 Initial Quality Study (IQS).

J.D. Power annually surveys owners of new model year vehicles registered to measure new vehicle quality at 90 days of ownership. This year's IQS was based on responses from more than 73,000 U.S. purchases and leases of new 2011 model year vehicles. The study includes a 228-question survey designed to provide manufacturers with information they can use to quickly identify problems and take permanent corrective actions to drive improvement.

U.S. News & World Report has named the 2001 Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup. In the magazine's ranking of top vehicles choices, Ram 1500 scored the highest among the eight full-size pickups available to U.S Buyers. The rankings are based on an in-depth analysis by U.S. News editors of all published vehicle ratings, reviews and test drives. Ram drew praises for it's interior comfort, class-leading handling and HEMI V-8 performance.

"The 2011 Ram 1500's smooth, car like ride, well-designed and comforatble interior and powerful V-8 engines make it a top pick in its class" said ther U.S. News editors.

The magazine cites other third-party accolades in naming the Ram 1500 the best full-size pickup:

When it come to convertibles, there are drop-tops and there are drop-tops, drop doors, and drop-windshield, Autobytel points out. Staying true to the classic design, Autobytel said the latest 2011 Jeep Wrangler continues to offer unique features such as removable doors, exposed hood latches and door hinges, a foldable windshield and a removable top.

"Dropping the top is easy, but removal of the doors is even easier-just remove the two T45 torx screws that secure each door, lift out the hinges and you'll be screaming 'look ma, no doors!' in a matter of minutes," the review said.

Autobytel notes that Chrysler Group is making a "strong push" to improve the interiors across it's product line and a Tampa Bay Outline review said drivers will notice the Wrangler has a "well designed cabin that looks and feels upscale and modern."

Fiat Officially has Over 50% Ownership in Chrysler

Last week Fiat officially agreed to buy the US Treasuries remaining 6% interest in Chrysler giving them over 50% ownership and paying off the bailout loan that was received in 2009. Much credit for the quick payback of the loan and the rising sales numbers must go to Fiat's CEO, Sergio Marchionne. The revamped 2011 Jeep Cherokee sales are up almost 20% from a year ago and the entire sales numbers for Jeep's entire line-up is up over 55% through May.
